What it pays
This one needs care, because the platform’s own numbers do not agree with each
other.
The jobs page headline says up to $1.75 per minute. That page does not say
per audio minute in the headline. Further down, its own FAQ does say pay is
per audio minute of finished files.
That distinction is the whole gig. GoTranscript defines an audio minute as the
length of the recording, not the time you spend typing it.
The headline and the rate table do not match
The same page carries the data behind its earnings calculator. In that data,
English pays $0.65 per audio minute. The full range runs from $0.20 for
Spanish to $2.38 for Japanese.
No language in that table is priced at $1.75.
So the headline number is not the English rate. It is not any rate we could
find. If you type English, plan on $0.65 a minute of audio. Treat the
$1.75 headline as advertising.
One outside review site puts the average at about $0.60 per audio minute.
That sits close to the $0.65 English rate.
What that means per hour
GoTranscript does not publish an hourly figure, and we will not invent one.
The same outside site reports $4.50 an hour on average. It reports $9.00 an
hour at the top. Treat those with caution. They come from nine reviews, which is a
very small sample.
GoTranscript pays weekly, on Fridays, through PayPal or Payoneer.
Which options you get depends on where you live.
One more number the platform prints itself. Its customer FAQ says clients pay as
low as $1.02 per audio minute. Next to $0.65 for English, that is the
platform’s own margin, on its own website.
Who this fits
This fits you if you type fast, hear well, and want no schedule at all.
It fits people outside the United States. GoTranscript says it hires
worldwide and takes beginners.
It fits if you have no experience. None is required.
It fits if you speak a second language. Extra languages pay more, and Japanese
tops the table. Each language needs its own test.
Who should skip this
Skip this if $0.65 an audio minute does not work for you. A beginner needs
several minutes of typing per audio minute, so the hourly rate is low.
Skip it if you cannot pass a grammar test. Applying means two tests, an English
test and a language test.
Skip it if you need certainty about getting in. The jobs page says hiring is
open. The same page also says applications are not being accepted.
Both messages are live at once.
Skip it if hearing speech in noise is hard, because difficult audio pays the
same as clear audio.
How to start, step by step
- Check your age. GoTranscript’s terms set a minimum of 18.
- Test your typing speed before anything else. It sets your real pay.
- Apply. It is free.
- Take the English test and then the transcription test. If you fail, you
may retake it on the same account.
- Never open a second account. That gets the application rejected
automatically.
- Set up PayPal or Payoneer, depending on your region.
- Do three short files and time yourself before deciding this is worth it.
Your first week
Day 1. Apply and take the tests in a quiet room.
Day 2. Read the formatting rules. Editors grade accuracy, formatting and
timing, so style errors cost you as much as typing errors.
Day 3. Take one short, clean file. Time yourself from opening it to submitting
it.
Day 4. Work out your own ratio. Divide your working minutes by the audio
minutes. Four to one is common early on.
Day 5. Do the arithmetic. Audio minutes times $0.65, divided by the hours
you actually worked.
That last number is your real pay. It is not the $1.75 headline. It is not
the number on any list whose writer never did the job.
GoTranscript names the equipment itself: a computer, steady internet, headphones
and a quiet room. It calls a foot pedal and a text expander optional
extras.

What we could not confirm
- What the $1.75 figure actually refers to is not stated in the hero block. The hero says only 'per minute'. The page's FAQ elsewhere says pay is per audio minute, so per audio minute is the likely reading, but GoTranscript never joins the two statements on the page.
- The $1.75 headline does not match the page's own embedded rate table: no language in that table is priced at $1.75, the top listed rate is $2.38 (Japanese) and the bottom is $0.20 (Spanish). Where $1.75 comes from is unexplained.
- The rate table lives in a script block, so it cannot be quoted through the quote verifier. Someone should confirm the English $0.65 figure by opening the page in a browser and reading the earnings calculator, or by viewing source and searching rate_per_minute.
- No GoTranscript page states how many minutes of work a beginner needs per audio minute. The third-party average of $0.60 per audio minute (F7) and the third-party hourly average of $4.50 (F8) imply roughly 7 to 8 audio minutes finished per hour, which implies about 8 minutes of work per audio minute, but that is arithmetic on a 9-review sample, not a sourced ratio. Do not print a work-time ratio unless a better source is found.
- The jobs page contains both 'hiring is fully open' and 'We are currently not accepting new transcribers' in its served HTML. The second looks like a conditional state that the language picker switches on, but which one a real applicant sees, and for which languages, was not confirmed. Re-check before publishing and again in 30 days.
- Whether new transcribers start at the published language rate or at a lower probation rate is not stated anywhere on GoTranscript's pages.
- GoTranscript does not publish a payment threshold or a per-payout fee. The no-minimum and 0-9 day payout figures (F13, F14) are third-party only.
- The 18-plus rule was found in the end-user agreement on the privacy page, which is written for customers. Whether the same clause binds transcriber contractors specifically was not confirmed.
- Independent GoTranscript worker pay data is thin. Glassdoor and sidehustles.com both appeared in search results but sidehustles.com returned HTTP 403 to our fetcher and was not read.
- Tax treatment, contractor status paperwork, and whether US workers get a 1099 were not found on any GoTranscript page.
